Flahavan's are committed to sustainable production that protects the environment and our community. We burn the outer shell of the oat to fuel the boiler which generates steam used in the cooking process of the oats. We also use water from the original millstream at the River Mahon to generate electricity to help power the mill.
Our Jumbo Oat Flakes
Flahavan's Jumbo Oat Flake is a larger, thicker oat flake ideally for preparation as a delicious porridge with more bite. Jumbo Oat Flakes can be used as an ingredient in home baking to make Flapjacks, Muesli or Granola.
Oats are a source of wholegrain goodness that are high in fibre and naturally low in sugar, salt and saturated fat. Oats are also a source of protein and iron.
From Our Family to yours
Flahavan's have been milling quality oats at the family mill beside the River Mahon in Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford for over 200 years. Our unique milling process cooks the oats twice which gives Flahavan's Jumbo Oat Flakes their distinctive texture and taste.
Recipe for Flapjacks
Heat 200g margarine or butter, 2 tbs golden syrup and 100g brown sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add 200g Flahavan's Jumbo Oat Flakes and 200g Flahavan's Progress Oatlets and mix well. Spread the mixture evenly on a lined baking tray (22 x 33 cm). Bake at 150°C x 30 mins or until golden brown. Cut into squares while warm.
